A Call for Help After the Attacks

Dear Muslims,

I apologize for addressing you collectively as members of a religious community. Normally, I don’t group individuals according to his or her faith. Today, however, I choose to address you as Muslims, because I need your help!

In France, Muslim terrorists carried out an attack on a gas factory. They drove a car to the site, triggered several explosions and even cut off a man’s head. At the crime scene, Arabic writing and the black flag of the Islamic State was found. Therefore, we are presumably dealing with Muslim terrorists.

I would really like to describe the terrorists differently, for example as assholes, scumbags or so. However, I choose to call them by what they call themselves. In this case, they call themselves Muslims and claim to kill in the name of Islam!

Freedom of religion is a human right! Human rights are inalienable! Even such a heinous crime as the one committed in Grenoble should not result in a person being denied his human rights. Religious freedom includes the right to define his or her religious beliefs freely. One must not deprive even terrorists of this right! Islamists often shout „Allah is great!“ during their attacks. These facts should be taken seriously!

Currently, people’s heads are being cut off, women stoned, homosexuals hanged, Jews murdered and groups of people shot and thrown into mass graves. All this is being committed in the name of a so-called „Islamic State“. It is your religion that is being violated. For every person who believes Islam means peace, these Muslims who wage war in the name of Allah and kill people must be worse than those who burn the Koran.

In 2011, when the American preacher Terry Jones used a copy of the Koran to fuel a fire, there were worldwide protests from Christians. Now, the Koran is being used to fuel violence and war! If Islam really means peace, then every peaceful Muslim should be enraged at this misuse of their religion!

I’m a Christian. With horror, I recall the historical dark age of Christianity, when Christians persecuted Jews and torched their synagogues. Those people, who called themselves Christians in those days, were far from the religion of charity. However, there were also those sincere Christians, who bravely followed the principles of Christian charity and condemned the madness committed in the name of Christianity.

I’m German. During the era of National Socialism in Germany, Nazis spread indescribable horror over the world. There were also decent Germans at the time, but the Nazis set the tone. The world perception didn’t differentiate; Nazis and Germans were viewed as synonymous.

Every time someone somewhere in the world criticizes Islam, parodies Mohammed or makes a silly film about Muslims, the outcry in the Muslim world is usually immense. But where is the outrage when Islamists misuse Islam to justify their evil deeds?

In France, a man was beheaded in the name of Islam. This should initiate a protest at least ten times larger than when Kurt Westergaard’s Mohammed caricatures were printed in a Danish newspaper a few years ago.

Your problem is not caricaturists, critics and mockers. If Islam truly means peace, then your problem is with rhose people, who call themselves Muslims, and sow hatred and commit violence in the name of Allah. Just as the Nazis were a German problem, the Islamists are now a Muslim problem! Your problem is dealing with the terrorists and sympathizers of Hamas, the Islamic State and all the other Islamist organizations whose followers call themselves Muslim and pretend to live according to Mohammed. You should explain to those Muslims the true meaning of جهاد (jihad)!

Rescue your faith!

Just as the Nazis were the enemy of enlightened Germans, so are the Islamic fanatics the enemies of enlightened Muslims. There were sadly very few who had confronted the Nazis. One of the most well-known resistance groups was „The White Rose“ led by the Scholls, who in their third leaflet, wrote:

”But our present State is a dictatorship of Evil. “We’ve known that for a long time,” I can hear you say, “and it is not necessary for you to remind us of it once again.” So I ask you: If you are aware of this, why aren’t you uneased? Why do you permit this autocrat to rob you of your rights, little by little, both overtly and in secret? One day there will be nothing left, nothing at all, except for a mechanized national engine that has been commandeered by criminals and drunks. Has your spirit been so devastated by rape that you forget that it is not only your right, but your moral duty to put an end to this system? If a person cannot even summon the strength to defend his rights, then there is nothing left for him but destruction. Then we will deserve to be scattered to all corners of the globe, as dust before the wind, if we do not pull ourselves together in this eleventh hour and finally summon the courage that we have been lacking till now. Do not hide your cowardice under a veil of cleverness! Because each day you delay, each day you do not resist this spawn of hell, your guilt increases exponentially.”

In their first pamphlet, the Scholls warned:

„Remember, every nation deserves the government that it endures!“

Dear Muslims,

Resist the fundamentalists who preach hatred in the name of your faith. Your enemies are not the critics and mockers of Islam. Your enemies are not Israel and the US, not Jews nor Christians or even the West. Your enemies are those who deceitfully call themselves “true” Muslims, similiarly as Nazis once called themselves the “true” Germans. Resist! Do not abandon those whom the Islamists call their enemies!

The hate ISIS shows today is just as intense as that which the Nazis had once spewed. The Nazis plunged the world into a world war. In the end, not only were European cities bombed, but millions of innocent people worldwide suffered needless death and suffering. Rescue your nations and religion from such devastation and explain to the Islamists and fundamentalists the meaning of جهاد (jihad) before others do!
