Facebook has recently stated that videos uploaded to their platform which spread hatred and promote inflammatory lies about Jews do not violate their community standards. The video in question shows a 23-year-old terrorist wielding a knife in her hand after stabbing a person on the street. Bystanders try to prevent the terrorist from escaping. However, the video was maliciously edited in order to distort the facts and then uploaded to Facebook. The explanatory text propagates outright lies:
„#Palestine – Israeli settlers attack an old woman and try to run her over“
„JEWS attack and stone an elderly PALESTINIAN WOMAN!“
The video has been since disseminated in the internet by „Islam Facts“, „Islam awakening“, „Ummah News“ and presumably shared by many other Islamic Facebook pages and scores of private users.
Within just a few hours hundreds and even thousands of users have been spilling out their contempt of Jews. There have been calls for violence against Jews and for their extermination, even suggesting gassing them. These haters celebrate Hitler as a great man and call Jews pigs, dogs and bastards. One man even wrote:
„After watching the video on Facebook, I can now understand Hitler.“
After reporting the video, Facebook responded:
“Thank you for taking the time to report something that you feel may violate our Community Standards. Reports like yours are an important part of making Facebook a safe and welcoming environment. We reviewed the page you reported for containing hate speech or symbols and found it doesn’t violate our community standard on hate speech.”
Facebook is in effect saying that spreading lies about Jews, lies which lead to a large number of violent comments containing anti-Jewish fantasies, does not violate the community standards of Facebook. That’s the safe and welcoming environment Facebook is promoting!
At Facebook there’s clearly a complete system fail:
On the other hand, fully acceptable critical comments about Islam are often deleted by Facebook, simply because a small percentage of Muslims feel offended while a lot of pages that are openly anti-Jewish – even calling for their extermination – are not deleted. That’s because a comment on Facebook can be deleted if enough people feel offended and report the post. Since there are about 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, but only 16 million Jews, we are dealing with an immensely skewed weighting.
Just 1% of all Muslims who are offended by a statement on Facebook have the same numerical weight as all the Jews in the world. Therefore, it would be impossible for Jews to defend themselves against offensive and defamatory comments and videos! There are simply not enough Jews in the world to effectively tackle hatred of Jews!
The current system with which Facebook deals with hate and calls for violence definitely discriminates against Jews! Facebook must change that immediately!
